We are looking for a passionate senior engineering leader who can continue to build our talented engineering team and provide excellent technical architecture to our clients. You will manage Team Leads, who manage the day to day execution of our various projects; your purview includes both software engineering and data science. You will regularly interface with and report to the CEO, as well as unblock projects, make technical architecture decisions, and assign appropriate resources to various concurrent projects by interfacing with Product Management and/or Design. We run our teams with Agile Methodology.
client and internal project solutioning.
You will oversee the Team Leads’ planning, scoping, estimating, and defending of software development strategy for each project. This will include the stack and tooling to be used and high level architecture of the apps and components involved. You will be accountable for the quality of the architecture decisions recommended by the engineering team.
training and managing.
Team Leads. You will oversee and manage Team Leads in their running of engineering projects. This may include mentoring their architecture decision making, helping unblock stuck tickets, coaching them on individual skills, holding them accountable for engineering budgets and quality and intervening when those budgets and quality are not sufficient.
Training and mentoring engineers on the team, and unblocking them when they run into technical issues that they struggle with on their own and/or the Team Lead cannot unblock. Evaluating the capabilities of each engineer and/or supporting the Team Leads in doing this to effectively assign engineers to tickets based on skills and speed, as well as providing support in weak areas to increase engineers’ capabilities in the long term.
project budgeting and management.
Ultimate accountability for accurate project estimates and ensuring the Team Leads are managing the engineers effectively to hit those project budgets. You will also be accountable for the team providing adequate estimates and meeting them efficiently. Team Leads provide and manage estimates and project budgets directly.
evolving our engineering organization.
Interviewing, mentoring, hiring and growing the engineering team in order to meet our top-level company goals. This includes providing performance feedback, evaluating whether engineers are in the right roles, and identifying and filling skill gaps on the team based on the current pipeline of work.
support strategic expansion of the company.
You will work directly with the CEO on growth opportunities for the firm, such as whitelabeling our stack to license to customers, standardizing stack decisions in particular verticals to improve efficiency and other ideas that you contribute to the strategic goals of the company. You will work closely with Product Managers in improving processes and spotting points of improvements that have to be addressed by the organization. We expect you to have an ownership mindset of the engineering team and its contribution to the overall success of Fabius Labs.
Participating in sales calls, evaluating capabilities, and resourcing for new projects. You will likely participate in sales calls with the CEO and others and be asked to provide technical knowhow that demonstrates Fabius’ capabilities as well as strategically support the technical aspects of proposal writing, including providing accurate estimates for software engineering and data science work, with the input and support of the Team Leads.
